What is Solar Water Heating?

Simply, we use the sun, year round, to heat your household water, pool, or spa. Water filled solar collectors (or panels) are placed on the roof. The sun heats the water in these collectors, much like the sun heats water in a garden hose on a summer day. The solar hot water then circulates to your hot water tank to heat your household water. This is also called “Solar Thermal Heating”. This is free solar energy that works for private homes, health care facilities, laundry services, hotels and motels, hair salons, and many other commercial/industrial applications. These systems are quite, simple and nearly maintenance free.  All applications receive the following benefits:

Off-Grid Solar Thermal Water Heating Systems

 RES can provide two options for solar water heating systems for off grid applications. 

1. We provide solar collectors and a drainback system with a small PV panel to supply power to the circulating solar pump and controls. The collectors provide water heating and the PV provides a very small amount of electricity to supply the electrical power thus providing hot water without electrical or gas power
2. We provide a Thermo-Siphon system which uses a solar collector to heat the water and then relies on natural hot water convection. That is the hot water rising naturally to the top of the unit while the cold water sinks to the collector bottom to be heated. This works without any electrical power. The water storage tank is fixed to the solar collector and installed as one unit on the roof or elevated location.
3. We can provide both systems for DIY.

These systems work without an external power source to heat the water. Both systems must be drained during non-use and freezing conditions.
